The Ferrari 458 Italia is the successor to the F430. Going on sale in 2011, the 458 Spider has a new mid-mounted 4.5-litre V8 engine, incorporating direct injection and mated only to a 7-speed dual-clutch automated manual gearbox that shifts in 0.05 seconds. It has a retractable hardtop roof which can open or close in 14 seconds. Technology includes an E-Diff differential and an F1-Trac skid control system. The brakes feature a new system called "˜prefill' so when the driver's foot lifts off the throttle, the pistons in the calipers move the pads towards the discs to reduce the stopping distance. The 458 Italia's body and chassis are all aluminium, with a Pininfarina-designed exterior. The Vehicle Dynamic Assistance monitors the operating parameters of the most important areas of the car engine/gearbox, tyres and brakes. The VDA offers various settings that enables the driver to tune the car for the ideal operating conditions. The 458 is also available with modern conveniences like Bluetooth, CD stereo, rear camera, navigation, stability control and ABS, as well as a full set of front and side airbags.
