Lamborghini Murcielago 2003 Overview
The Murcielago, named after a famous matador, is the truest of the current Lamborghinis, with traditional scissor doors and a massive 6.2-litre V12 engine sitting between the front and rear wheels. It was also the first Lambo to be developed under new parent Audi, and is available in a hard-top coupe and a soft-top Roadster trim. Introduced in 2002, the Roadster came in 2004, while production ended by 2006, to be replaced by the Murcielago LP640 coupe model with a larger 6.5-litre V12. Power is fed to the all-wheel-drive system through a standard six-speed manual or an optional E-gear sequential manual transmission on all versions. High-tech features include active spoilers and air intakes that adjust according to speed, while the suspension can be adjusted for ride height to clear bumpy roads. The Murcielago Roadster has a cut-down windscreen so overall height is 70 mm lower than the coupe. Standard features include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, massive four-wheel disc brakes, power windows, air suspension and 18-inch alloy rims, while the Roadster has built-in rollover hoops. The rear air intakes and spoiler are adjusted automatically, depending on speed, to improve aerodynamics. Unlike older Lamborghinis, these cars are known to be a bit more forgiving for casual cruising.

Resale Value | |
Known Problems | Various random electrical problems, such as jammed windows, non-working heated cup-holder, central locking issues and stuck rear spoiler. Random quality issues, such as loose cabin trim, leather wear and flimsy storage covers. Premature clutch wear, probably due to high power output. Some develop transmission vibrations after hard use. Suspension rattles develop every few thousand kms, and need tightening. Starter motor has issues, especially when engine is hot. Weak brakes and wiper flies up at high speeds on pre-2005 cars. Reports of problems with engine throttle bodies and broken crankshafts. Engine needs major rebuild before 100,000 kms. Maintenance costs prohibitive, including oil change process. |
