The Veyron 16.4 was a long-running pet project by Volkswagen to create the fastest production car in the world at the time, reintroducing the Bugatti badge in style. A second key must be engaged when stopped to initiate "top speed" mode, when the rear spoiler sets itself to a lower position, the front air diffusers close and the vehicle lowers to further improve aerodynamic downforce. A limited-to-150-pieces Grand Sport model was released in mid-2008 with a removable targa-roof panel.
