Chevrolet Lumina 2005 Overview
The Lumina is the only rear-wheel-drive sedan in the affordable midsize segment, which is about the only reason why we do not want to see this aging car fail. Well that, and the available V6 and V8 motors that no one can match in terms of price. Built in Australia alongside the Caprice, it has been receiving minor updates every year since a major facelift in 2003, with an updated front end and new gearbox for 2005. The Lumina comes in five variants, namely the LS, LTZ, S, SS, SS Coupe and the new Royale. The power for the LS, LTZ and body-kitted S comes from the Alloytec 3.6-litre V6 engine, while the 5.7-litre V8 does its work in the Royale, the SS sedan and the SS Coupe. The base LS and LTZ models fulfil the basic needs of a commuter car that doubles as a family vehicle, with decent space and adequate power, while the SS models merge muscle-car attitude with a traditional sedan. The Royale attempts to be a luxury sports sedan with a host of luxury styling cues. The V8-powered Coupe is great value for money, though it goes for more money than the equally fast sedan. The Australians already had a 6.0-litre V8 downunder while we here still played with the old 5.7-litre.
