GMC Terrain 2011 Overview
General Motors expands their line-up of crossovers with the GMC Terrain, a soft-roader featuring squared-off edges and flared fenders. Technically a compact, it is almost as big as a midsize SUV. There is a choice of two engines, namely a 2.4-litre 4-cylinder and a 3.0-litre V6, both featuring "SIDI" direct injection, a 6-speed automatic, and either front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive. The interior features ambient lighting, clever storage spaces, a closed compartment under the center armrest for a notebook binder, four power outlets, optional power liftgate, basic keyless entry with optional remote start, single-zone a/c, CD/MP3 stereo with USB support, optional 8-speaker premium audio with available 10GB hard drive with DVD and navigation, optioal DVD rear-seat entertainment with two screens, optional power driver's seat, standard rear camera, optional sunroof, common power accessories, cloth or leather upholstery, and a choice of 17-inch, 18-inch and 19-inch alloy wheels. Safety features include stability control, traction control, six standard airbags and ABS disc brakes.
GMC Terrain 2011 Reliability & Resale Value

Resale Value | |
Known Problems | Rattling noise and rough idle in 2.4-litre engine is a known issue that dealers have fixed either by replacing the camshaft actuators, oil pump and timing chain, or by replacing the engine. Check for high engine-oil consumption as early engines had issues. Poor transmission shifting behaviour could either require just a software reflash, or internal parts changes involving seals, piston or housing. Few report power control module failure, leading to no-start condition. Reports of premature wear on seat-stitching, weatherstripping and external logos, with some suffering from broken door handles, rattles in dashboard, broken lumbar-support seat mechanism, A-pillar trim falling off, and sagging headliner. Commonly-reported issues may involve intermittently-operating iPod connection, faulty door speakers and full a/c controls failure, requiring module replacement. Power steering whine issue seems common, requiring replacement of power steering pump and hose under warranty. Faulty tyre-pressure monitors replaced under recall. |
