Jeep Grand Cherokee 2011 Overview
The 5-seater Jeep Grand Cherokee, redesigned for 2011, firmly moves up one level in this iteration, with a new-found emphasis on quality. Offered with a choice of a new 3.6-litre "Pentastar" V6 or an upgraded 5.7-litre "Hemi" V8, both come with a 5-speed automatic, four-wheel-drive with low-range and three trim levels. By 2012, the 5.7-litre models got a 6-speed automatic. The base Laredo is V6 only, the Limited can be V6 or V8, and the Overland is V8 only. An SRT8 version debuted for 2012 with a 6.4-litre V8, 5-speed automatic and all-wheel-drive with no low-range. For non-SRT versions, depending on trim level, there is a choice of two 4x4 systems, new Quadra-Lift air suspension on the Overland, and a new Selec-Terrain system with crawl control. The all-new Mercedes-Benz-derived platform has independent front and rear suspension, stiffer new body structure and more space. Even the Laredo is well-equipped, with body-colour bumpers, 17-inch or 18-inch alloy wheels, power driver's seat, dual-zone manual a/c, keyless start, CD/MP3 stereo, cloth upholstery, HID automatic headlights, fog lamps, and the usual power accessories. The Limited adds leather, Alpine premium audio, automatic a/c, panoramic roof, 18-inch wheels, rain-sensing wipers, navigation, 30GB hard drive and UConnect Bluetooth phone. The Overland adds real leather, real wood trim, stitched-leather dash trim, ventilated power-adjustable front seats, 9-speaker audio with subwoofer and 20-inch wheels, with various options and accessories available. The SRT8 version gets a unique body kit, sports suspension, sports seats and other trim bits. Safety features available include standard active head restraints, front airbags, full-length side-curtain and seat-mounted side airbags, stability control, electronic roll mitigation, hill-start assist and optional trailer-sway control. An optional blind-spot/rear cross-path detection system and adaptive cruise control with forward collision warning are also available.
Jeep Grand Cherokee 2011 Reliability & Resale Value
Reliability | |
---|---|
Resale Value | |
Known Problems | Some early 2011 3.6-litre V6 models had major engine issues, requiring full engine replacement under warranty, while later engines are fine. First-year models may have occasional "clunk" noise when downshifting to first gear at speeds under 10 kph, with possible solutions that will first involve reprogramming the powertrain control module, then replacing the drivetrain control module, according to a technical service bulletin. If issue returns, it may be because of failure to install a retainer snap ring during production. Issues involving Bluetooth and iPod functions may require software update. Remote keyless-entry issues may be due to low battery in key-fob. |
