Porsche 911 2005 Overview
The 911 is Porsche's original legendary rear-engined sports car, produced in coupe, cabriolet and glass-roofed targa body styles based on model, and with numerous flat-six engines and drivetrains. The 911 first went into production in 1964, and now includes the rear-wheel-drive Carrera 2, GT3, and GT3 RS models, and the all-wheel-drive Carrera 4, Carrera 4S and Turbo models. The top GT2 model was added later. All use Porsche's flat six-cylinder engine in various states of tune. The Carrera 2 and Carrera 4 models use a 3.6-litre with either a manual or a tiptronic gearbox. The Carerra 4S uses a 3.8-litre, with a choice of manual or tiptronic. The race-tuned GT3 and GT3 RS are the lightest cars in the range, and use a modified high-output version of the 3.6-litre engine, with only a manual gearbox. The all-wheel-drive 911 Turbo supercar uses a turbocharged version of the 3.6-litre engine. The lightened rear-wheel-drive GT2 uses an upgraded version of the turbo motor. Available features include power windows, electric mirrors, CD stereo and a full set of airbags. Both the GT3 and 911 Turbo is fitted with an Active Suspension Management system, while the Turbo has an optional Sports Chrono Package that temporarily boosts turbocharger pressure for up to 10 seconds by 2.9 psi, increasing torque.
Porsche 911 2005 Reliability & Resale Value
Reliability | |
---|---|
Resale Value | |
Known Problems | Aside from overpriced dealer-maintenance costs, there are random reports of manual-shifter cable breaks, serpentine-belt pulley wear, water pump failures and fuel-pump failures. Check for coolant reservoir cracks as well. Avoid first-year Carrera models due to potential intermediate-shaft failure that strikes maybe 5% of owners without warning, and requires engine replacement at half the value of the car. |
