Volvo XC70 2001 Overview
The XC70 was Volvo's first attempt at a 4WD vehicle. Based on a jacked-up V70 wagon with all-wheel-drive, it is not really that good off-road, but gets by on gravel and flat sand, given its fairly impressive ground clearance. It is powered by a 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbo, with an automatic offering tiptronic manual shifting. This wagon offers room for five passengers, with the option of two additional rear-facing seats in the luggage area. The second-row has a three-section bench seat with removable centre position for various setups. Standard features include keyless entry, CD player, trip computer, air-conditioning, xenon headlights, cruise control, electric driver's seat, power windows, doors, locks, sunroof and mirrors. Available features also include leather or vinyl seats, a power front passenger seat, 16-inch or 17-inch alloy wheels and an optional rear-seat entertainment system. Safety features include ABS brakes, stability control, dual front airbags, side impact airbags for SIPS, inflatable curtain airbags, and WHIPS whiplash protection.
Volvo XC70 2001 Reliability & Resale Value
Reliability | |

Resale Value | |
Known Problems | Common problems include cracked engine mounts, random oil and fluid leaks, and rattles in dashboard. Failures of front suspension arms, bushes and tie-rods seem common. Problems with faulty door locks, especially rear hatch. Seems to burn a lot of light-bulbs. Early models suffered dead battery due to security-immobiliser issues. Battery also causes radio interference in early models. Electronic throttle modules prone to failure, especially beyond 100,000 kms, due to carbon buildup, so performance suffers and replacement is expensive. Booming noise at 3000 rpm may be due to off-balance propshaft. Expensive CD stereo prone to failure, and aftermarket systems are incompatible. |
