Alfa Romeo 156 2003 Overview

The Italian 156, launched for 1999, was well-known for its specially-unique styling and good-handling front-wheel-drive platform. Although riding on a platform dating back to a 1988 Fiat, the suspension was upgraded with a double-wishbone front and MacPherson strut rear setup. Details about which versions of this slow-selling car came to the GCC are scarce, but the local range most probably included the 2.0-litre Twin-Spark 4-cylinder, 2.5-litre V6 and the 3.2-litre GTA. All models have prcise steering and good handling, made better in the non-GTA versions with an optional sports pack. Standard gearboxes include a 5-speed or 6-speed manual, with a 5-speed or 6-speed Selespeed automanual or a 4-speed automatic, depending on model, being optional. Available features included all the usual premium features, such as power windows, electric mirrors, 16-inch or 17-inch alloy wheels, CD player, dual front airbags with optional side airbags, ABS disc brakes and optional spoiler, matched to a cloth or leather interior. All 156 models since 2003, except the GTA, have stability control.
