Lancer, Outlander, Legend, FJ, C30 debut
Five new cars were launched in Dubai in the last few days, with more to follow. These include the Mitsubishi Lancer, the Mitsubishi Outlander, the Honda Legend, the Toyota FJ Cruiser and the Volvo C30.
The 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer comes with either a 1.5-litre (5-speed manual or four-speed auto) or a 2.0-litre engine (optional CVT, among other choices). It comes in three trims, with the top GT trim sporting 18-inch alloys and a Rockford Fosgate stereo. We hear prices are between Dhs 49,000 and Dhs 62,000 for the 2.0-litre model.
The 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander models are powered by two engines, namely a 2.4-litre four-cylinder (CVT) and a 3.0-litre V6 (six-speed auto). Two trims are offered, both with Mitsubishi’s electronically controlled 4-wheel drive with Active Stability Control and a tuned suspension, plus an aluminum roof that lowers the center of gravity for better handling response. Sixteen-inch alloy wheels are standard on the GLS model and optional for the GLX. Large eighteen-inch alloy wheels are also optional for the GLS.
The 2008 Honda Legend, out in foreign markets for years now, finally made its local debut with a 3.5-litre V6, all-wheel-drive, five-speed auto and other luxury stuff. It costs a whopping Dhs 170,000.
The 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser is a true off-roader with a 4.0-litre V6, a five-speed automatic, low-range gearing, 16-inch alloys with big tyres, a premium audio system and a range of accessories. The two trims are priced at Dhs 111,000 and Dhs 121,000, plus more for accessories. So now you can laugh at those used car dealers and their “victims” who bought these things imported and in used condition for much more money.
The 2008 Volvo C30 was unveiled at a flashy press event in Dubai. The three-door hatchback, or “coupe” as Volvo likes to call it, is a four-seater with a choice of either a 2.4-litre five-cylinder or a turbocharged 2.5-litre five-cylinder. Interesting car, but we didn’t bother signing up for a test drive since some of the other journalists were holding up the line chatting with the PR lady at the desk with the sign-up sheet. Maybe later.
Be sure to check out the new car buyer guide in the coming weeks for more exact details on these cars.
