Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 S revealed
The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is on its last legs of production. Available in coupe and roadster form with the standard engine, and only in coupe form with the special “722” engine, the German manufacturer has now revealed the “722” version in roadster form.
Called the 2009 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 S, the roadster gains the same upgraded 650 hp 5.5-litre supercharged engine with 820 Nm of torque, 10mm lowered suspension, smoked 19-inch alloy wheels, front splitter and carbon-fibre ceramic disc brakes as the 722 coupe. The interior features a full suite of upscale items, such as Bose stereo, navigation, multiple airbags and more.
The soft top is made of carbon-fibre and, unlike the targa-topped Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport, can withstand top speeds of 335 kph. The roof itself can open and close in 10 seconds semi-automatically, with some manual help. The roadster itself can also do 0-100 kph in 3.7 seconds and 0-200 kph in 10.6 seconds.
Only 150 of these cars will be built, most likely due to limited demand rather than actual exclusivity. After so many years, SLRs are as common as SLKs in Dubai. At least some of these cars can be expected to come to the GCC.

If the new SLR is produced as a convertible, i doubt that the roof will last for its speed.. Supercars(such as SLR, Murcielago etc..) having V12 engines should never have softops bcoz the roof cant resist the downforce when these cars do 150mph. This was also proven by Jeromy Clarkson (BBC top gear host).
