Ford Focus 2011 sedan and hatchback debut
The next-generation 2011 Ford Focus is making its worldwide debut at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show this month. Available in both the 4-door sedan and 5-door hatchback body styles, the all-new Focus will start production for Europe and North America late in 2010, with a local market launch early in 2011, and the GCC will then follow.
The new Focus will be nearly identical in all markets, with 80% parts commonality around the world. Initial production will be concentrated in Germany, United States and China. The new Focus will be one of up to 10 unique models to be built from Ford’s new C-car platform.
The two Focus models share a sporty the latest variation of Ford’s “kinetic design” theme. Now the sedan does not look like an afterthought of the hatchback design styling any more, while the interior is thoroughly modern.
Ford engineers have updated the superb suspension from prior models, developing optimised new designs for the “control blade” multilink rear suspension and the semi-isolated front and rear subframes. The chassis design is complemented by a new electric power-steering system, supposedly tuned to deliver precise responses while remaining light for parking. Ford has also come up with a “Dynamic Cornering Control” system, which uses “torque vectoring” techniques to transfer power between the drive wheels to deliver reduced understeer, improved traction and better turn-in.
The global powertrain lineup for the new Focus will include a range of Ford EcoBoost 4-cylinder turbocharged direct-injection engines, including a 1.6-litre unit in Europe, and a choice of Duratorq TDCi common-rail diesel engines, all more efficient than before. Ford is also showing a new 2.0-litre engine for the U.S. market with 20 hp more than the outgoing motor, and mated to a 6-speed dual-clutch automanual.
Ford also has confirmed plans to begin building a full, battery-electric vehicle in 2011 for sales in North America. It will be the company’s first battery electric passenger vehicle.
Within the cockpit, the most significant innovation is the company’s next-generation driver connect technology, called MyFord. On higher-spec models, the MyFord system includes an 8-inch touch screen, allowing the driver to control a wide range of functions via a clear and intuitive color display.
MyFord is complemented by a new generation of Ford’s powerful SYNC connectivity package, which includes a voice control system, Bluetooth and satellite navigation, along with connection points for a wide variety of external devices and media players.
Other available safety and convenience technologies include keyless entry and “Ford Power” start button, a rearview camera and a semi-automatic parallel parking system that automatically steers the vehicle into a parking spot.
Expect the new Ford Focus to reach UAE roads in the first half of 2011. So far, we have yet to find a better compact car than the Honda Civic. After being disappointed with the compromises made in numerous promising models such as the Mazda 3, the Mitsubishi Lancer, the Kia Cerato and the Chevrolet Cruze, it could be Ford that finally topples our all-time Japanese favourite, but only if matched to good engine choices. Keep track of updates in the Ford Focus buyer guide.

The Focus is not getting the turbo 2.0, for obvious reasons. The largest turbo engines seems to be 1.6, with a non-turbo 2.0 also available.

its nice to see that ford is NOT making small cars that look cute and feminine which is what most [<read: mazda, Peugeot] seem to do…

the sedan focus at the detroit show has the large wheels of the mondeo but in chrome! looks sweet! some guy called bill ford admits, they’re not going to have drmatic sales increases this year. the Global focus will have MyFord and “will rival and in some cases beat technology found in larger, more expensive vehicles”.
“air bags deploy faster, cover more of the body & customize inflation levels to occupants”
the ford Fusion Hybrid wins Car of the Year and Transit Connect wins Truck of the Year at the show

the 2012 Ford focus is ranked at a deserving no. 1 in KBBs list of top 10 debuts at the detroit show. I think ford has created one of the best [if not the best] of the affordable C-seg cars.
“We gave the 2012 Ford Focus the top spot on our Detroit Auto Show Top 10 list both for what it is and what it means. When the next generation arrives early in 2011, the Ford Focus will finally possess the kind of style its cool technologies and European-like driving dynamics deserve. More importantly to many, this high-volume seller promises to provide even more momentum to the accelerating domestic renaissance.”

Hi all.
Was expecting this launch since long time. As a happy Focus 2006 owner, I am very dissapointed that the initially-planned Focus 2010 to be based on concept Ford Verve (check on google for pix), now it looks like a japanese clone… too bad they had to change their plans and designs, I guess to cover the crisis loss through offering what the market is asking. Just check on web how many stories around design and specs of the new 2010 Focus: all are different. Really hope that despite the japanese look, the quality will remain german for the European Focus, the one which we get in UAE.
Respect to all, drive safe, but fast!

Ohh, and just to add more intrigue:
in Russia (auto.mail.ru) they speculate news that engines will be:
1.0L – 98 HP,
1.4L – 140 HP,
both with turbo.
And ST/RS is another story already 🙂 2.5L V5 305-350 HP!!!

The cooling system in cars are improving as more turbocharged or supercharged cars are making its way to the Middle East. Will be great to see some power in these cars to match its great handling
