Abu Dhabi Motors posts 2009 sales results

Abu Dhabi Motors, the exclusive importer for BMW, MINI and sole dealer for Rolls-Royce in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, has emerged as one of the few automotive success stories of 2009, selling the highest number of cars in its company’s 20 year history.

Exceeding 2,600 sales for BMW, Rolls-Royce and MINI in 2009, Abu Dhabi Motors bucked industry trends by recording a six percent growth despite the premium automotive sector being down by 25 per cent.

Contributing to this record performance, the top-of-the-range BMW models continued to remain popular with sales for the BMW X6 Sports Activity Coupé increasing by 78%. It was also the top selling BMW model for Abu Dhabi Motors in 2009. The flagship BMW 7 Series saw a sales increase of 122%, reinforcing its status as the best selling premium car in the Middle East in 2009. The new BMW Z4 roadster also contributed to the growth recording an increase of sales by 150%.

Despite prevailing challenging conditions within the automotive industry, Abu Dhabi Motors’ sales for the MINI brand in 2009 increased seven per cent over 2008 sales, making Abu Dhabi Motors the largest and most successful importer of MINI in the Middle East.

Another area of the business that performed well was BMW Premium Selection, the company’s approved used-car programme, which achieved a 16 per cent increase in sales in 2009 compared to 2008.

The unprecedented result, in what has been a challenging year for the automobile industry, further confirms the increasing importance of Abu Dhabi as a key market for BMW Group Middle East.

Abu Dhabi Motors was once again in the top five Rolls-Royce dealers in the world in 2009 with the richest Bespoke specifications in the world – an indication for the level of individualisation and exclusivity. In fact, every single Rolls-Royce Phantom delivered to customers in 2009 was a Bespoke Phantom.

Arno Husselmann, General Manager, Abu Dhabi Motors said: “We are delighted to record such positive sales results amid tough market conditions. My team and I worked tirelessly to achieve these results and although we anticipate some of the challenges faced in 2009 to remain during 2010, we will continue with our commitment to offer the best products and deliver the best service to our customers here in the Capital.

“We will add five new models to the BMW portfolio during the first five months of this year, starting with the all-new BMW Gran Turismo that has just arrived in our showrooms. This is an entirely new model that offers a unique combination of versatile sportiness and stylish elegance. It combines the characteristic features of a prestigious sedan, the functionality and space of an SAV and elements of a grand touring car,” added Husselmann.

Other new models that will be launched in 2010 will include the BMW ActiveHybrid X6 and ActiveHybrid 7, the new BMW 5 Series and the BMW X1. All new vehicles have been designed to incorporate BMW EfficientDynamics technology to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, making them the most fuel efficient vehicles in their respective categories.

Over the last twelve months Abu Dhabi Motors has achieved significant milestones including the recent opening of brand new facilities in Al Ain, a state of the art showroom and service centre as well as heavy investment in training for sales teams. The company is also undergoing a multimillion dollar redevelopment and expansion to our existing Umm-Al-Nar Showroom which will include a dedicated MINI and BPS showroom. Rolls-Royce will also welcome a state of the art showroom later this year, the largest Rolls-Royce showroom in the world.
