GM recall for Korean Chevrolet, GMC & Opel models

General Motors is recalling 58,696 vehicles in South Korea as part of a safety recall. Models include the Korean-market versions of the Chevrolet Captiva crossover and the Chevrolet Cruze sedan, as well as the Opel Antara and possibly the 2009 GMC Terrain.

The recalled Daewoo-badged vehicles are built by GM Daewoo Auto & Technology Company, the Korean arm of General Motors that supplies the Chevrolet Captiva, Chevrolet Cruze, Opel Antara and the outgoing GMC Terrain to the Middle East.

In South Korea, the Daewoo Winstorm and Winstorm Maxx are being recalled due to the possibility that “the steering wheel can become separated.” The Winstorm is badged as the 2008-2010 Chevrolet Captiva in the UAE, while the Winstorm Maxx is sold here as the 2009-2010 Opel Antara and the 2009 GMC Terrain. The GMC Terrain has already been replaced by a new US-built 2010 version in the UAE.

Also, the Daewoo Lacetti Premiere sedan is being recalled for “possibly defective fuel hoses that could leak.” The Lacetti is known as the 2010 Chevrolet Cruze in the UAE.

GM Daewoo spokesmen say no accidents have resulted from any of the problems and the recalls were decided by the company itself, so it is not necessary for safety-conscious owners to wear a spacesuit before driving. Recalls in other countries, including the GCC, will be decided and announced later.
