Renault Sandero 2011 now in UAE showrooms
Targeting “young discerning drivers,” Renault Middle East has launched their Sandero hatchback in the UAE. Essentially a rebadged version of the Romanian-built Dacia Sandero that has been trundling around Europe since 2007, the hatchback is based on the same platform as the Renault Logan that debuted in Dubai recently.
The new Renault Sandero is more modern-looking than the Logan sedan, but still a very simple car aimed at “the entry-level segment of the high-volume AB hatchback category,” whatever that means.
Before being launched in the UAE, the Sandero was put through a testing regime in the region to ensure the car is suited to local driving conditions. Its claim to possible fame is that it is supposedly more spacious than its competitors based on price. That is partly achieved by placing the spare wheel underneath the car, instead of in the boot, which Renault feels is a “smart idea” but might really be a pain when the wheel actually needs to be taken out.
The Sandero is equipped with the 1.6-litre 16-valve engine, in both manual and automatic versions, that has 90% of its torque at hand from 2,000 rpm. Renault makes no other mention of specs, but we assume it is the same 105 hp unit that powers the Logan.
The Sandero also seems better-equipped than the Logan, with ABS and better sound-deadening materials on offer, alongside an MP3 stereo, front power windows and cloth seats.
All Sandero models will come with a 3-year/100,000km warranty and a series of after-sale benefits as part of Renault’s Customer First programme. It is now available in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and other Emirates at a starting price of Dhs 39,500.
Keep track of UAE prices and GCC specs in the Renault buyer guide.
