Kia Picanto most reliable, Land Rover LR3 least, in UK
The Korean-built Kia Picanto was voted the most reliable new car in the United Kingdom in a survey by UK consumer watchdog magazine Which? Car. Incidentally, the UK-built Land Rover LR3 placed last in the list.
In the Which? survey of over 26,000 new car owners from the last three years, the aging compact Picanto hatchback topped the survey results with a reliability score of 98.1%.
The Mazda 3 came in second, while the Daihatsu Sirion and the Honda Insight hybrid tied for third, all hatchbacks due to the popularity of that body style in Britain.
A majority of the top-ten list was dominated by Japanese vehicles, with the Honda Jazz in fifth place and the Toyota iQ microcar in sixth, with the Toyota Prius hybrid in seventh.
Rounding out the top 10 are unlikely European entrants, the Volkswagen Golf Plus goofmobile and the Mercedes-Benz SLK roadster, with the Mazda 2 hatchback at tenth.
The now-replaced Land Rover Discovery LR3 was ranked the least dependable new car, earning a reliability score of 67.8%, and the only one to dip below 70%. The bottom ten is rounded out by an eclectic bunch that includes the Range Rover Sport in second to last, then the Hyundai Santa Fe, the Jaguar S-Type leftovers, the Citroën C4 Grand Picasso, the Volvo S80, and the Ford S-Max.

Now that I’m prompted to think about it, Kia hasn’t announced any recalls in this recall festival. Correct me if I’m wrong.

BJD, i think you’re right…

VW hasn’t had any recent recalls either. But I think they consider problems as “normal” anyway.
ROJ
So they survey people and based on their experiences they measure how reliable a car is? Whats the criteria?
Mashfique Hussain Chowdhury
If it’s anything like J.D.Power, I guess they count the number of problems.

the fact they didnt technically evolve much is what makes asian carmakers reliable… I think..

I wonder how MAzda2 has got such low score and not even a nomination in the Middle east awards since its the only Japanese car ever to win the ‘World Car of the Year’ overall award, and the The ‘World Car of the Year’ is one of the most respected awards for any automobile company and is chosen by a jury of 48 top auto journalists from 22 countries.
Annurag
Who are the jury members from Oman and can you please provide a list of all the jury members and which countries they are from?
Mashfique Hussain Chowdhury
Mazda 2 isn’t even out yet in the UAE, although it may be in some GCC countries as a 2011 model. Jury is on the awards site.

I have a Land Rover LR3 and let me tell you how powerful it is. Well I can’t because I’m not literate in the amazing automotive vocabulary but it kicks tiny car’s butts. Only time it wasn’t reliable was when the washer fluid was low when I first bought the car. Now a tiny Picanto can be reliable. Cause it is a tiny car. With all the features in a Land Rover there are many places to go wrong. Which one is generally easier to break a radio or a multi-use screen? The Land Rover is the most reliable car I’ve ever had. More than my Range Rover, my Ferrari 458 Italia, my Lamborghini Gallardo, and my tiny Hyundai Getz, as well as my BMW 5 Series and my Mercedes S600. (Lets just say I have a thing for cars). Now the Range Rover might be a little unreliable (admitted) and the reason I bought the Land Rover in the first place. I don’t know why I’m so attached to the car I just feel safe and powerful when driving it. If that is not reliable, than what is?

@Afif Jamali, I don’t believe you owned all these cars… you are blufing…

There is one guy bluffing out there in myride section, he seems to have owned a wide range of cars, but owns a alto now and then he doesn’t know which suv to buy….:) 🙂

^I wouldn’t say he’s lying, because he’s American (I think) and he used to own those in the U.S. likely. Those cars are easy and cheap to acquire there.
