Dodge Avenger 2011 gets new interior and engine
Chrysler is on a bit of a roll, upgrading the interiors on almost all their existing models in a bit to improve their image as well as sales. The latest model to benefit is the 2011 Dodge Avenger midsize sedan, which also receives a new engine option.
The only changes externally are a new front bumper and LED taillamps in the back. But the interior is completely new, with more soft-touch materials and better sound-deadening. Available technology includes voice command functions for hands-free phones, USB port, navigation and memo record, an iPod/MP3 jack, Bluetooth streaming music, Gracenote music identification, a hard drive that stores approximately 6,700 songs and remote start.
The standard engine for the front-wheel-drive Avenger is a “recalibrated” version of its existing 2.4-litre 4-cylinder, making an estimated 175 hp, and mated to a new 6-speed automatic transmission. Newly available is Chrysler’s new 3.6-litre “Pentastar” V6 is available, making a healthy 283 hp, and mated to a 5-speed automatic.
Other changes include a heavily-reworked suspension geometry, with redesigned suspension bushings, wider front and rear tracks, wider tyres, lower ride height and better steering feel.
Expect the new Avenger to reach some markets in the Middle East by the first half of 2011. Incidentally, the Avenger came to the UAE in 2008, but by 2009, it disappeared from advertising materials, likely cancelled due to slow sales.
Keep track of UAE prices and GCC updates in the Dodge Avenger buyer guide.
