2013 Ford Shelby GT500 convertible revealed
Ford has taken wraps off the all-new 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 convertible at the Chicago Auto Show, which also happens to mark the 20th anniversary of Ford’s tuning arm namely the Special Vehicle Team or SVT.
The new Shelby GT500 convertible sports the same monstrous 5.8-litre supercharged V8 engine and mated to the same 6-speed manual transmission, found in the Shelby GT500 coupe, with the exception that the convertible has its top speed limited to a sane 250 kph for obvious reasons. Except for the open top and “SVT” branded lighted sill-plates, the Shelby GT500 convertible shares all of its mechanical features with the Shelby GT500 coupe. Both performance package and track package are also available for the Shelby GT500 convertible as is with its coupe sibling, making it more track-friendly.
The Shelby GT500 convertible is slated to go on sale in the US by mid-2012. Expect it to become available on special-order in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and rest of the GCC later this year.
