Long-term update: 2009 Renault Safrane gets work done
Our two-year-old Renault Safrane just had its first proper problem. The driver-side power window, which had been acting hesitant for more than a year, finally decided to crap out. The window glass went down and never came back up. Naturally, my father was pissed, as he had to go to work on a Friday, driving at 120 kph with a face-full of wind, and then having to leave the car overnight, open to the elements. He kept comparing it to his “reliable” 1997 Toyota Corolla, which didn’t even have power steering, let alone power windows.
The next morning, we took it to the service centre. We also mentioned to them that the power-folding mirrors did not like to fold all the time. By evening, we got a call that the car would be ready for pick-up the next morning. That’s pretty quick work for a non-maintenance repair, compared to my experience with other workshops and dealers.
The window and the mirrors are working fine now, and it was all covered under warranty. Everything else in the car is working fine, and mechanically, the car remains trouble-free.

They replaced the power window motor? Al Futtaim quoted me 1200DHS for the same.

The motor was working fine, but something else snapped. I didn’t ask what they replaced. The same thing happened to my Jeep, but I had to replace everything, including the motor, because it is all one piece.

The jeep has a problem the assembly is made of plastic.. It simply snaps due to stress.. And then yippie ya yay!!

^Actually, the metal cable snapped on my Jeep, of all things. Got the entire regulator replaced from a ghetto garage with new parts.

Thats why they call them Renaults..

the signs of a lemon car? 🙂

Hardly. It uses Nissan parts.

Had the same trouble with our MY2009 safrane. Drivers side window fell into its slot, and never came back up.
Was fixed quickly. I believe they said the switch that powers the motor broke.
Same issue I guess?

Don’t know, the motor still seemed to be working, as it made noises.
