Drift UAE held at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi
The 4th round of the Drift UAE was held at the Yas Marina Circuit last Friday, on 24th February.
Originating in Japan, drifting on a semi-pro level is becoming more popular in the UAE. Inheriting a blend of both motor sport and extreme sport , drifting requires expert level drivers to control their high powered cars while it slides sideways on a trail, at high speed.
Twenty drivers participated in the Drift UAE event , exhibiting their well practiced drifting skills, along with guest drivers who flew in from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Jordan and Lebanon. The European Prodrift Series boss, Graham McNamara, judged the event and kept briefing the participants on better driving skills.
Emirati participant Ahmed Alaamri won the competition, in his Toyota Soarer. Abdul Aziz Alyaeesh from Saudi Arabia ranked second with his BMW M6. After a competitive battle between Palestinian drifter Ahmad Daham with his Subaru Impreza and AbdulHadi Alqahtani from KSA with his Ford Mustang, AbdulHadi took the the third position, with Ahmad settling for fourth.
Fifth was Ahmad Alkhowaiter in a Hyundai Genesis, followed by Yousef Alromaithi in a Nissan 300ZX and Muath Al-Essa in a BMW M3. Ahmed Almehairbi with his Subaru STI, Mubarak AlRumaidhi with his Nissan 350Z and Ahmad Omar with his Nissan Silvia rounded up the top ten.
