Toyota Prius C production increased to meet global demand
Japanese manufacturer Toyota plans to increase production of their new Prius C hybrid hatchback from 20,000 to 30,000 units each month at the company’s Iwate plant in Japan. Apparently the car is a massive hit.
When the Toyota Prius C went on sale in Japan in December, the manufacturer received 120,000 orders over the first five days.
An improved economy and increased domestic demand means that most of the cars produced will be sold in Toyota’s home country Japan.
The augmented production numbers will come courtesy of increased plant efficiencies and by moving production of other Toyota models from Iwate to other plants.
The Prius C is powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder that is combined with a 45kW electric motor, producing a total of 99 hp. Torque transmission duties are handled by a CVT.
There are no talks of the baby Prius making it to GCC shores, but we believe that the Toyota’s introduction of their hybrid hatchback, the Lexus CT 200h, last year was a sign of things to come.
