2014 Chevrolet Impala makes New York debut
The new version of the Chevrolet Impala, one of the icons of the 60’s and 70’s, made its New York Auto Show debut earlier this month. Ridiculously dubbed as a 2014 model, it is all set to replace its crude predecessor which made its appearance back in 2006.
The exterior of the Chevrolet now carries a considerably better and modern design, if still boring. The face up front is the Bowtie brand’s new corporate visage, which can also be seen on the refreshed 2013 Traverse. The clean-but-dull looks are complemented by a full suite of HID and LED lighting elements. An option of 18-inch and 20-inch wheels are also available.
Impala designers have also made considerable changes to the interior. It now sports a new dual-cockpit concept, as well as a 4.2-inch information screen between the gauges and an eight-inch screen above the centre stack. Also noticeable is that the bench-type seats of yesteryears have been replaced with traditional bucket seats.
New engine offerings include a 2.4-litre four-cylinder producing 182 hp and 230 Nm of torque and a 2.5-litre four-cylinder with 195 hp and 250 Nm of torque. A 3.6-litre V6 producing 303 hp and 360 Nm of torque is also on the cards. All of them will be mated to a six-speed automatic, and will be driven by the front wheels.
The Impala has also received a slew of new available active and passive safety systems, including Full-Speed-Range Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
Chevrolet states that the new Impala will be priced above the Malibu and that it will make it to U.S. dealers by early 2013. However, as of now there is no news of its release in the GCC. It is entirely possible that GM’s local outfit will use the new American Malibu and Impala to replace the Australian-sourced Lumina and Caprice completely in the near future, given the rising Australian currency.

god, the front looks like a refurbished Toyota Camry

Sure….Make it a Honda Impala or a Toyota Impala and you’d both wet your pants. Same goes for Motor Trend and Consumer Reports writers. I saw the car tonight and I (and a lot of other guys) thought it looked GREAT. I have a 2008 STS and I like the ’14 Impala more than my STS. Face it – You guys hate any American car because that’s what you’ve been Brain-washed to think.

Who thinks Chevy cars are now American?
Khalid Mahmud
Of course they are. Even Avalon, Maxima, Altima, etc are American.

@Khalid
No car is truly Japanese or American now a days. All are built by cost-quality conscious conglomerates operating in 4 continents with parts shared, sourced.
Today’s intertwined global economy – and car market – ensures that no matter where it comes from, today’s cars mostly are built to high standards.

I am reading comments of somebody hating some cars, some others promoting some cars as the ‘best’. While all are supposed be personal choices, I prefer to think that some body loves to hear Nancy Ajram or Beatles while some body still hates them.
When it comes to owning and buying a car, it is always better to go for what one’s heart says. Like you marry the girl you like; while somebody likes somebody else.
