Hyundai i30 & Kia Pro-ceed 3-door hatchbacks revealed

Kia plans will bring the 2014 Pro-ceed, or “Pro_cee’d” as their marketing monkeys have dubbed it, and Hyundai will follow suit, bringing the 2014 3-door i30 to the 2012 Paris Motor Show. The cars will be unveiled at the company’s press conference on 27 September.

The Pro_cee’d settles in nicely to the line-up but the traditionally styled 3-door i30 is bound to face competition from it’s fashionable sibling, the Hyundai Veloster. Fortunately, powertrain diversity is in favour of the i30.

The three-door Hyundai’s distinctiveness comes from Hyundai’s ‘fluidic sculpture’ form language as seen in the sharply-raked beltline, angular glasshouse silhouette and longer front. A black mesh insert and central bar accentuate Hyundai’s hexagonal grille and the lower bumper gets sportier fog lamp clusters consisting of round spots connected to LED daytime running light strips. The lower bumper on the rear end features new horizontal, sculpted fog lamps that contrast with the upright units of the five-door and a black insert give it a wider stance. 16-inch alloy wheels, exclusive to the i30 complete the design. The Pro_cee’d gets the signature “tiger nose” grille and more sporty stance overall.

Both cars will have a choice of four engines and five power outputs varying from 89 hp to 133 hp, all matched to either six-speed manual or automatic transmissions. The ‘U-II’ 1.6-litre diesel engine generates 126 hp and emits only 97g/km of CO2. The i30 which is designed, engineered and manufactured in Europe will get a tuned ride and handling.

There is no news yet if the 2014 Kia Pro_cee’d will hit the UAE, Saudi Arabia and other GCC countries, but we can expect the 2014 Hyundai i30 to make its way to showrooms by the middle of next year.
