Long-term update: Honda S2000 goes in for service
The coolest thing about owning a Honda sports car is that it’s a Honda. So it’s relatively cheap to maintain compared to, say, a Porsche Boxster or a BMW Z4, aside from being more reliable. We just took our S2000 in for its first service at the dealer.
The dealer service-centre does not see many S2000s any more. In what could be the ultimate humiliation, the clueless receptionist even wrote down our car as a “City” without seeing what it was.
Being such a low-mileage car, now at 18,100 km, we cannot follow the regular maintenance schedule. What makes matters even more confusing is that it’s already had its “40,000 km” job done a couple of years ago under the previous owner. So based on what the service advisor told us, we went for some sort of mid-level service, where they changed the oil and gave the car a thorough check, we hope. We also asked for synthetic oil, because we didn’t want to run to the dealer every few months.
The work was done in less than 6 hours, and we picked up the car again on the same day. They noted that we need a new battery and wipers, which we elected to do later. The final bill was for Dhs 740.
Original Mileage When Bought: 14,900 km
Latest Mileage To Date: 18,100 km
Latest Average Fuel Economy: 13.8 litres/100 km
Cost of Latest Problems: Dhs 0
Cost of Latest Maintenance: Dhs 740Total Non-Fuel Running Cost Since Bought: Dhs 740

That pretty much shows the previous owner took care of it well.

who cares about a Honda S2000 anyways ? it’s not like what people are interested in, specially in the UAE, make more useful articles about wanted cars like FJ Cruiser, Mustang, Pajero, Infinity … etc
Nero
you are truly hilarious, my boring friend.

i agree with you hamadan bro, fat + boring people with no lives are not interested in such a car.
a) Fat people cant fit in it
b) boring people dont like to drive a stick shift
c) with above traits there is no point buying such a car any way no chick would dig such people any way…

I owned an s2000 and sold it at the start of the year. Great car and won’t cost you the earth to maintain. Looks like you have one of the few last well maintained s2ks in Dubai – hang on to it and if you sell, make sure you add me to the list of buyers you have 😉

If I am using the 5000k (mineral?) oil, do I need to flush the system to change to synthetic oil?
Ihab Salem
It’s always better to flush the system when changing the oil type to get the full potential of the synthetic oil. But I believe even if you don’t, it will not make problems.

Thanks
