Volkswagen shows off electric versions of Golf and Up
Volkswagen have increased their range of the Up and the Golf as they are all set to unveil the electric versions of the two. The duo made their appearance at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show this week.
The e-Up is a mini-hatchback that will buzz on an 80 hp motor which produces 210 Nm of torque. The juice on the batteries is good enough to push the e-Up from 0-100 kph in 12.4 seconds. It will come with a top speed of 130 kph, and the range is reportedly 160 kms.
The bigger e-Golf gets a more powerful 24.2-kWh battery, which powers a 114 hp motor. Torque figures touch 270 Nm, which is good enough to take the hatchback from 0-100 kph from standstill in 10.4 seconds. The car is also electronically-limited to a 140 kph. A single charge reportedly lets the e-Golf hum around for 190 kms miles. Both cars will come with two driving modes- Eco and Eco+. There are also four regenerative brake modes, namely- ‘D1’,’D2’,’D3’ and ‘B’.
Both cars come with standard features like automatic climate control with parking heater and ventilation, radio-navigation system, windscreen heating and LED daytime running lights. There’s also quick charging facility, which enables the car to be charged up to 80 percent in 30 minutes. But you’ll need to plug it into one of those CSS charging stations.
Both vehicles will make its appearance at Frankfurt, after which sales dates will be announced. However, we don’t expect Volkswagen to bring their range of electric vehicles to the Middle-East.
