2015 Mitsubishi Pajero previewed in electric concept
A redesign of the popular Mitsubishi Pajero is long overdue. Selling in big numbers as a cheap alternative to the Toyota Prado, the Pajero has carved a niche for itself in the UAE and elsewhere. But it seems Mitusbishi is busy experimenting with what direction to go in with the next-generation model.
Seen here is the Mitsubishi GC-PHEV concept, or ‘Grand Cruiser Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle’ if you like. Displayed at the recent Tokyo Motor Show, the GC-PHEV mates a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine and an 8-speed automatic transmission with a plug-in hybrid system comprising of a high-output electric motor and a high-capacity battery to deliver permanent four-wheel-drive performance.
Mitsubishi says it is intended to create the vision of “an imposing yet eco-friendly vehicle speeding across a vast terrain”. With word trickling in that the next-gen Lancer Evolution might go hybrid, it’s safe to say that Mitsubishi might be thinking of going hybrid with the Pajero as well. The current model is horrendous with fuel economy, but going partial-electric would be taking it to the extreme.
Whatever Mitsubishi decides in terms of powertrain, it’s safe to say that some design cues from this concept might actually end up on the production Pajero when it pops up a year from now.

Please explain , why is it hideous?? I bet you anything if it had a range rover badge or Nissan or Toyota on it, you would be praising it.

good designs cues if this concept will be followed it can end up to look like a cross between le patrol n Range rover. to the guys commenting ugly and hideous its a concept meaning an “idea” not the real finished product

It’s a hideous concept meaning, it’s a hideous “idea” thus a hideous real finished product.

Mitsubishi may actually develop something that would look way better than the prados and fortuners.

From the looks in the picture, the Pajero concept looks like a hybrid between Nissan Patrol (back end) and Range Rover (front end)!
And a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine and an 8-speed automatic transmission. Not enough until they throw in a decent amount of BHP and Torque to the engine.
The existing ones sell because it’s the best alternate to the BIG SUV league out on the roads mainly because it fits within the budget of many.
No one these days buys an SUV to go out for desert safari… they are more used as a city cruiser…
I feel they should follow the CUV style like Explorer, Jeep and Pathfinder.

being a Pajero (short) user for the past 5 years, i was expecting a better make over & a better engine modifications for 2015, and was planning to change to a new one.. but this concept really put me off.. horrible..! i rather go for another SUV..

This is ugly but it’s a mock up and hopefully the finished product will look better. The current pajero is an old design but still a good vehicle and i think i would be happier with my current nw series for ther time being. At the end of its prodcution life all(most)of the bugs have been eleiminated. With the new one it’s engine and everything thing else will likely throw up some issues for a few years. It’s strange looking thoug and reminds me a little of the RR Evoque

If the finished product resembles this Star Wars vehecle in any way Mitshubishi wil loose a 15 year returning customer 🙁

I loved these comments.
I agree the car looks strange especially from the back.
I am sure the production car will be fine and will borrow from this car but will not look like this at all.
