Here’s our end-of-2013 Recommended List updates
It’s not often that we update our Recommended List of road-tested cars, but when we do, we’ve noticed that it’s becoming increasingly harder to pick the best of the best, especially since every carmaker seems to have improved so much over the years. It was much easier this time around though. The three 2014-model-year cars we’ve added are perennial public favourites.
First up is the 2014 Dodge Charger SRT8. The last time we drove a Charger was in 2011, and it was a V6. It was impressive enough that we even added that one to the list. But the SRT8 takes it to a whole other-worldly level. Full review here.
An easy entry here is the 2014 Mazda 6 2.5. It isn’t at the top of its class when it comes to cabin space. Nor is it the quietest of its peers. But damn are they good at suspension tuning. And boy does it look good. Full review here.
Oddly enough, we had to think long and hard before adding the 2014 Volkswagen Golf GTI. It’s got a little more hard plastics and a little more road noise than before. But then the new model’s made huge strides in terms of engine performance and feel of the controls. That secures it. Full review here.
There are a few others that we’re still debating whether to add or not. Road-tested cars we particularly liked were the Jaguar XJ-L V6 Supercharged, the Jaguar F-Type V6 S, the Toyota RAV4, the Lexus IS 350, the Lexus GS 450h, the Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0TSI, the Honda Civic and the Bentley Continental GT V8. And there’s a bunch we still need to try out for a longer period, such as the facelifted Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, the Volkswagen Passat, the Nissan Altima and maybe a few others we can’t recall.

Hi,
I am very keen to buy a Charger, but i don’t know is it good for long drive. My office is 100 km. from my home. Is it a good car to ride daily 100 km ?
Thank you.

I’ve got a V6 2013 Charger, and despite not driving it for long daily distances, it’s a joy to ride on road trips, so I don’t see why it won’t suit you.

Hummm, wonder why FJ was never recommended.

There isn’t a single BMW, Merc, Audi & Porsche since 2006 and it goes without saying those are the top brands in the world & among the top selling brands in UAE

There would be a few Porsches on there if they’d give me a car for more than just a day, for a comprehensive road test. Audi doesn’t deal with us. The others are overpriced by as much as 30% compared to some other markets, and one of our criteria is value for money.

@Speed, You don’t require anybody to recommend you to buy those brands, do you?

Good points Mash however I would love to add the car if it really worth and just point out the price issue
