SAR 40,000 fine and 5 years car impound in Saudi Arabia for “drifting”
Saudi Arabia authorities are planning on cracking down hard on motorists caught doing reckless driving on public roads, with huge fines and possible jail-time for repeat offenders.
According to Arab News, first-time offenders will be referred to the Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution, followed by court. They will be handed a fine of SAR 10,000 and a one-month confiscation of their vehicle. If they are caught the second time, they will face a fine of SAR 20,000 and lose their vehicle for 3 months, in addition to a possible 6 to 12 months prison sentence. Third-time offenders will face a fine of SAR 40,000 and could see their vehicles impounded for anywhere between one year to 5 years.
Passengers and onlookers are not exempt from any punishment either. Individuals found in the passenger seats of the offenders or found aiding the illegal traffic-related activities will be hit with a fine of SAR 1,500, as well as lose their vehicles for at least 15 days.
The strict laws come in light of the increasing number of road accidents in Saudi Arabia. A 2013 study by the Kingdom’s General Directorate of Traffic found that 19 people die per day in traffic-related fatalities.

i don’t think 6 to 12 month is enough for such person cause in many cases they kill innocent people(i know their cases are different and they will be charged with murder) but lets see if this role would decrease the number of these type of crimes.

fully agree mate – tough prison sentences seem much more appropriate for those idiots that dont care about other ppl lifes..

The problem, the youth in Saudi have little entertainment. Movies are non-existent and even the malls are off-limits during the weekends for them. What else do you expect them to do ??

Only if you get caught and has none ‘Wasta’

Just give a land/area where they can do this legally in each city.
make it free or very cheap.
insist the cars go through a quick safety check. everyone wear helmets, let them drift away in the area till the wheels fall off.
no harm done to anyone, except the people in the vehicle in case of accident
this will keep them off public roads.

Hi guys,
KSA is not what it claims to be. I was born here and been living here ever since. One of the main drifting areas of Riyadh is behind my house.
So here’s how it works. The cop is always standing at the end of the perpendicular road. The drifting is done and the whole street is full of onlookers and pedestrians enjoying the event. Then every half hour or so,the cop patrols the street once and then hibernates in its original position. I myself could hear the drifting sound in my home, then it is pretty obvious that the cop plays a deaf ear to the youth of his nation.
Laws come and go,but nothing can ever harm a localite; and believe me, not even a murder. I have come across many stories, but never mind, that’s a different subject.
Bottom line, never panic with such news, these are just gimmicks to show everyone that the country is taking a step to control this.
