New flashless cameras in Al Maryah Island, Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi Police recently announced 46 new flashness cameras have become operational this week on the Al Maryah Island.
The cameras have been place on 19 signal intersections on the Al Maryah Island. This is part of the campaign to put 150 flashless cameras across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region by 2017, to increase safety at intersections.
The radar cameras have been programmed to capture different types of traffic violations, according to Brigadier Hussain Al Harithi, director of the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate. This includes jumping red lights, stopping cars on pedestrian crossings, speeding, swerving between lanes, taking U-turns from the wrong lane and overtaking other drivers.
The 3D thermal cameras, which can oversee across five lanes, will be used to record license plates of vehicles passing as well as track their speeds. The cameras will also be used to monitor the number of pedestrians at each crossing.
Surveillance cameras have already been active in 36 other intersections across Abu Dhabi since July last year.
