2016 Range Rover Sport HST

Land Rover has unveiled the details of their new Range Rover Sport HST, and made its official debut at the New York Auto Show.

Ideally intended to sit between the Sport HSE and the class-leading SVR, the Sport HST gets a host of new features and more grunt underneath to distinguish it from the lower variant. For a better visual stance, the vehicle is accentuated with glossy black inserts on the hood, front wing vents, fog lamp bezels and the grille.

The Sport HST is powered by the same supercharged 3.0-litre V6 as the regular Sport, but squeezes out 40 hp more from the engine. So the SUV now produces 380 hp as opposed to the existing 340 hp of the Sport HSE. The engine will be mated to the same ZF 8-speed automatic transmission.

The Sport HST also gets an upgraded 20-inch brake kit with red callipers, and will ride on “dark satin grey” 21-inch or optional 22-inch “stealth” alloys. A “Santorini Black” roof and redesigned spoilers are also on cards. Alongside that, the vehicle will sport special badging to help distinguish the Sport HST from the regular Sport.

In any case, what’s more important is that the Sport HST receives some enhancements underneath, which includes unique chassis settings and reduced body roll to give better and sharper responses while still maintaining the comfort level of the Sport HSE. The Terrain Response system, which adjusts suspension, steering and throttle settings also gets a unique “dynamic mode”.

The interior gets some minor changes too. The two-tone seats are now trimmed in Oxford leather, and there’s ebony inserts in the door, center console and headliner too. You also get noble-plated paddle shifters and the usual HST badging all around.

We expect the see the Range Rover Sport HST on the roads of UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the rest of the GCC by the end of the year.

What do you think?
