Covers taken off the 2016 McLaren 650S GT3
McLaren GT, the GT race car manufacturing arm of McLaren Automotive has revealed the 2016 spec Mclaren 650S GT3, the successor to the 2015 650S GT3 which amassed a win last weekend at the Bathurst 12 Hour with the #59 Tekno McLaren driven by Shane van Gisbergen, Alvaro Parente, and Jono Webb. The new GT3 will receive a proper welcome at the upcoming 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
The GT3 will be a track-only offering which can be purchased by any customer team in the world. The car comes with the same 3.8-litre turbocharged V8 engine, the output of which is capped at 500 hp to meet the FIA GT3 regulations. Coupling that with the modified bodywork, the car weighs in at a light 1240 kg.
To drive this new racer, McLaren GT have announced an addition to their factory driver lineup. 24-year old Côme Ledogar will accompany Rob Bell and Alvaro Parente to compete at the Blancpain Endurance Series and the Blancpain Sprint Series.
Meanwhile, the 21-year old Colin Thompson has found his place in the McLaren GT Driver Academy and he will be a part of the K-PAX Racing / Flying Lizard Motorsports two-car lineup in the Pirelli World Challenge.
