Nissan Patrol V6 replaces SE V8 for 2017, in UAE showrooms now
It’s happened. The 2017 Nissan Patrol is now available with a V6 engine, as the existing 317 hp Patrol SE V8 has already been discontinued. And the V6 is already in Dubai showrooms quietly on display in the UAE.
This comes two years after a mysterious video was released online, showing the Y62-generation Patrol V6 undergoing hot-weather testing in the UAE. Word is the old Y61-gen Patrol Safari will be discontinued this year as well, at least in some markets.
The drivetrain appears to be lifted from the Xterra, namely a 275 hp 4.0-litre V6, with 394 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm, but now mated to a 7-speed automatic. There is no manual version at this time.
The 2017 Patrol SE looks pretty much the same as the outgoing base 317 hp 5.6-litre V8 model seen in the photos. The trim levels include a base XE model for Dhs 191,000, with the SE model starting at Dhs 222,000. A higher-trim version with leather costs Dhs 239,000, while the SE Platinum tops off the V6 range at Dhs 261,000. So essentially, it costs the same as the old model. We will add further details as we know them, but we know the fancy HBMC suspension is still not available on the SE, even in the Platinum trim. Otherwise, the Platinum is fully loaded, with leather, navigation, 20-inch machine-cut alloys and all.
The Patrol LE with the 400 hp 5.6-litre “VVEL” V8 is still available, as is the body-kitted Nismo model.
We are invited to the media launch event at the end of the month in Oman. It will be interesting to see if any work has been done to tone down the gruffness of the Xterra’s V6, and whether it can easily haul the behemoth that is the Patrol, but it should be no worse than the popular Toyota Land Cruiser V6. It’s no coincidence that we opted for the “big engine” Patrol LE model for our personal long-term fleet.

So our v8 se platinum will have good resale value after longterm usage as its discontinued.and i dont think v6 can handle patrol weight…..

this is a chart for the nissan titan, you can see that peak torque comes in at around 3800 to 4000 rpm

this is a chart for a xterra , and although peak torque comes in at almost the same rpm, in lower rpm it the torque is actually higher than the V8
where this comes in importance is in offroading scenarios here in the sand where torque in lower rpm is needed.
however that really doesnt justify the price, it shouldve been dropped a couple of thousand Dhs

Price does look high but isn’t land Cruiser pretty much the same.
also these cars are produced in Japan , where the yen is pretty much going North. I think even Mistubishi and Mazda’s will end up being more expensive in 2017MY. so i doubt its the greed but probably forced by currency.

Well, this version probably will face the same health issues that 2.7 ltr Fortuner faces that is, Asthma during sudden acceleration and overtaking and shoulder & leg pain on large dunes. As a family hauler it will succeed, but the point with Fortuner is pricing unlike Patrol. For this price Nissan should have reworked the 4.0 ltr V6 and should have matched the performance & pricing of 3.5 ltr Ecoboost v6 of Ford Expedition base and mid specs.
Meanwhile be clear, engine power does play a major role in off-roading, so does an intelligent 4 wheel drive system. For e.g. even with a punny 1.3 ltr, the snail paced Suzuki Jimny manages to tower itself on big dunes and climbs rocky areas with ease. The transmission is so capable and fine-tuned that it passes whatever juice available to the wheels. Both X and Armada are dying, personally I would have kept Armada’s engine live and let X’s engine die. Since v6 will end up drinking same amount of fuel trying to pull the big Patrol. So pricing has to be correct, plus who knows what’s in store, let’s wait for final review.

If they had tuned the 4.8 engine a bit for better fuel economy and power and mated it with the same 7 speed gear box + manual it would it would he much more in demand and the y61 coming to an end would have made more sense . I don’t think any1 would modify this 4.0 engine

what nissan thinks isnt about aftermarket modifications
the VQ engine is a far superior engine to the TB engine from nissan when it comes to efficiency.
its lighter more powerful and much more fuel efficient.
dont get me wrong i own a 1991 nissan patrol and the TB engines are one of the most reliable workhorse engines out there but its not the smartest idea for nissan to use it on the new nissan patrol

If they really wanted to downsize, they could have opted for a turbo 3.5 V6. Would have solved the problem of “V6 can’t handle patrol” and also achieved their market strategy. Bunch of fools, in my opinion.

In my opinion i dont think turbos are the most reliable option here in the middle east, the weather just does not allow it.
the biggest proof is german cars, if german cars where used heavily they wont last 5 years without major issues, and everyone knows that japanese manufacturers are all about reliability, so this really is the best option for them for a workhorse like the nissan patrol

Agree should have developed a turbocharged engine for such a legendary model. still if well mated to transmission should provide good low end torque..

In my opinion it’s no go for me to upgrade from Vtc 4800
Land cruiser has same power but less weight which is ok for land cruiser
But this like the same scenario of Prado 2.7 liter
By the way I am happy with the VTC 4800cc. Which is 280 horses
But if they have kept v8 320hp and the v6 for lower price was a good idea

Wait why r they using a old 4.0 v6? Nissan already have Infiniti’s 3.7 v6 with 330 hp in Nissan patrol for the Asian market. it just doesn’t make sense.

The best move for nissan would be offering this V6 as a base model below the 320hp V8 and an asking price of 170k dhs… if this would actually happen then Toyota would have some serious competition as the LC also offers three gasoline engine choices of somewhat similar power ratings compared to the patrol!

You can see my previous comment in which I am criticizing the V6 Patrol by just seeing the Technical figures that’s is a v6 with 275 but currently I am owning a Nissan Patrol V6 4.0L 2019 turned out to be a nice Patrol , fuel consumption is low , power is more than enough, the moral of the story is first drive the car then judge if its good or not.
