Long-term update: Our Toyota FJ Cruiser gets puked on

Our manual Toyota FJ Cruiser has been chugging along trouble-free. There’s absolutely nothing to report except the cost of the latest service as well as someone puking in it.

We took it in for the 15,000km service, and apparently the dealer had a discount running that brought down the price from a high Dhs 800 to a realistic Dhs 550. We threw in new wipers as well for Dhs 130. And a smart repair (offered by the dealer, but outsourced) of the scratch on the rear bumper corner (left by some idiot without a note) cost us Dhs 500.

Later on, it finally got a thorough cleaning inside and out after we lent the car to our offroad monkey Vivek “Pajero” Menon. His kid puked in the back seat, probably because Vivek drives like a monkey, so he took it to a car wash facility and got the “deep clean” done several times until there was no smell left. So aside from a couple of door dings, our FJ is looking new again.

So far, it’s cost us more in RTA expenses to just park the FJ than it has been to maintain it.

  1. Thats what I am talking about. This car is just a tank. I am loving mine since 2010…

  2. Sorry to hear about Viveks kid throwing up in the back seat. I think FJ’s seat material is somewhat easy to wash and clean… did it help?

Note : You got kids too who would wanna ride in Viveks back seat some day… LOL

  3. Hi Mash, is it really a family freindly car? I want to buy one but worried about the on road performance.

  4. Drive a Ford Edge and then drive the Fj…you will find it absolutely manageable!!!
