Ford Fusion Responder Hybrid police car revealed

As an alternative to the V6-powered Ford Taurus Interceptors in the United States, Ford has revealed a pursuit-rated version of their Fusion hybrid sedan.

Kitted up with all the necessary equipment, the new Ford Fusion Responder Hybrid Police car will help the police department cut down on the fuel costs incurred by their fleet. To provide a contrast, the current Taurus Police Interceptor returns a fuel efficiency of 13 litres/100 km while the new Fusion betters it drastically as it sips just 6.18 litres/100 km.

The Fusion Responder Hybrid Police car also comes with a system that uses its Li-ion batteries to diminish engine run-time while idling. This is expected to save more than a litre of fuel an hour. Adding all the savings, Ford estimates, will reduce the yearly expenditure by US$ 3,900 per car.

The new Ford Fusion Responder Hybrid Police car comes with a pursuit rating so it is capable of handling extreme cases of long, high-speed chases. The car also gets modifications under the hood. The powertrain has been tweaked to offer an electric-only top speed of 96 kph. For situations that demand maximum power, both the combustion and electric engine can run together.

Bookings for the Fusion Responder Hybrid Sedan have already started in the States.
