2018 Subaru Outback Estate revealed

Subaru took the covers off their 2018 Outback Estate at the 2017 New York Motor Show. The update brings the Outback closer to the recently refreshed Legacy and Crosstrek models with a more rugged appearance.

The big grille up front and the plastic cladding on the lower part of the bumper make it look tougher. The sharper LED headlights now adjust their beam according to the steering input so as to improve visibility during cornering. The higher models, Limited and Touring, get Subaru’s EyeSight safety assistance suite along with High Beam Assist. A pair of large fog lights is fitted on to the plastic cladding. The cladding up front also helps in protecting the vehicle from mud and grit when it takes unbeaten paths. The 2018 Outback is offered with the same 221 mm ground clearance as the old model.

The engine lineup receives no updates though. The 2.5-litre boxer four-cylinder unit offered with the base models produces 175 hp and 236 Nm of torque. If you yearn for a bit more power, a 3.6-litre flat-six engine will provide 256 hp along with 335 Nm of torque. The only gearbox available is a CVT unit retuned for smoother operation. Subaru’s torque vectoring all-wheel-drive system delivers power to all the four wheels. An electric power steering system is offered to improve response. ‘

Inside, the Outback gets a new 7-inch infotainment system screen instead of the 6.2-inch unit. An 8-inch unit is also offered with higher trims. The side window glasses up front are sound insulating units which work along with the redesigned wing mirrors to reduce wind noise in the cabin. A new shade for the interior, Titanium Gray, has been added to the list which already includes Slate Black and Warm Ivory. A new steering wheel is also a part of the updated package.

The 2018 Subaru Outback will go on sale this summer in the U.S. and it might make its way onto UAE and GCC shores by the end of the year.
