VW Golf Sportsvan 2018 refreshed for Frankfurt debut
Volkswagen introduced an updated version of their Golf’s practical alter ego, the Golf Sportsvan at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. The rest of the Golf range was given a mid-cycle refresh in the last November but the Sportsvan had to wait for a while to get its face done. This minivan adds more room to the Golf package thanks to its taller roof and longer body.
The changes are not groundbreaking despite the “extensive update” claim made by VW. At the front, out went the xenon headlights and in came the all-LED units that were featured in the other Golf body styles. These are optional though. The rear also gets a pair of LED tail lights as standard. Five new designs are offered for the 16 to 18-inch alloy wheels. The body can be finished in a Cranberry Red shade.
Inside, the Sportsvan is equipped with a 9.2-inch infotainment system that features gesture control and capacitive touch buttons. A Media Control app controls its functions straight from a handheld tablet. An optional “Security & Service” package alerts the road-side servicing team automatically in the event of an accident. Safety tech includes Pedestrian Monitoring, Traffic Jam Assist, Emergency Assist, Trailer Assist, Park Assist and the proactive occupant protection system. Additional options are added to the brochure for decorative trims, fabrics, and leather upholsteries.
The VW Golf Sportsvan is unlikely to be offered in the GCC.
