Porsche Cayenne Turbo joins all-new 2018 lineup

Only a few weeks have passed since the day Porsche took the covers off the 3rd generation Porsche Cayenne and Cayenne S. Now, Porsche has unwrapped yet another Cayenne variant, this time it’s the top dog, the 2018 Porsche Cayenne Turbo. As per the features list, the 3rd gen Porsche Cayenne Turbo may be the closest an SUV has ever got to a sports car.

The boffins at Porsche have equipped the new Cayenne Turbo with features unknown to the SUV segment. The Turbo is the first SUV in the world to come with active aerodynamics. The roof spoiler fitted to the Turbo adapts and changes its position according to the situations which optimizes efficiency, increases downforce at the rear axle and also acts as an airbrake, helping to shorten the braking distance.

Speaking of brakes, Porsche offers the Porsche Surface Coated Brake (PSCB) system as standard equipment with the Cayenne Turbo. This shaves off two meters from the distance taken to brake from 250 kph to a complete halt.

Apart from the clever aero bits, the Cayenne Turbo also gets an active chassis with a three chamber air-suspension. This, as Porsche claims, will combine the “precision of a sports car, comfort of a saloon, and the adaptability of an off-road vehicle”. The SUV also gets different sizes of tyres at the front and rear, just like a sports car.

Power comes from a 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 which churns out 550 hp, overpowering the previous generation Cayenne Turbo by 30 horses. This engine is hooked up to an eight-speed automatic transmission that helps the SUV shoot from 0 to 100 kph in 4.1 seconds. The add-on Sport Chrono Package will slash another 0.2 seconds off this time. The top speed is electronically limited to 286 kph.

Expect the new model to reach UAE and GCC shores by the beginning of nexy year.
