2018 Aston Martin Vantage debuts with reveal in Dubai

After more than a decade stagnating as the outdated entry-level Aston Martin, the British carmaker has revealed the 2018 Aston Martin Vantage, with styling inspired by the DB10 concept featured in the last James Bond movie. Alongside the global reveal, the new Vantage was shown at a media event in Dubai as well.

Looking a bit unfinished from the front, the styling is still a welcome departure from the Aston template established by the DB7 two decades ago. All of the aerodynamic elements are incorporated seamlessly within the structural design of the Vantage, meaning there are no moving or bolt-on parts. A complex rear diffuser controls turbulence off the tyres and, with the help of the front splitter and the side gill panels, is intended to help create downforce.

Weight distribution is 50/50, and the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 sits as close to the middle of the all-new aluminium chassis as possible.

The engine itself, sourced from Mercedes-AMG, has been retuned to produce 503 hp and 685 Nm of torque. Weighing in at 1530 kg, Aston Martin says the 0-100 kph time should take 3.6 seconds, with a top speed of 314 kph.

Other features include an 8-speed automatic (with a manual coming later), an electronic rear differential, DB11-derived suspension tuned for more stiffness, Pirelli P-Zero tyres and either steel or carbon-ceramic brakes. There is adaptive damping, with three different modes — Sport, Sport Plus and Track.

The fancy new leather/alcantara interior offers optional extras such as colour choices and carbon-fibre details. It also features an 8.0-inch LCD screen as standard, with smartphone integration.

Prices are expected to start north of Dhs 600,000, with European deliveries beginning in the second quarter of 2018. Expect it to hit UAE, KSA and other GCC showrooms by next summer.
