So we got a 2017 Ford Mustang GT California Special
The updated 2018 Ford Mustang is almost upon us, with a droopier front-end and a radical list of mechanical updates. That’s not to say the existing Mustang is to be scoffed at. While it may not have topped many categories in our exclusive muscle-car comparo, we contend that it is still a great daily-driver, as we found out when we drove the GT California Special earlier this year, both in coupe and convertible forms.
Technically speaking, the convertible we drove is actually a 2016 model, while the coupe is a 2017. The only difference is the upgraded SYNC multimedia system, which is actually a big deal.
Otherwise, the California Special is a trim package that adds wheels, stickers and black trim. It lacks the Premium Pack, so there’s a bit more hard plastics in the cabin than the top-spec GT.
What we really liked was the practicality in the convertible, as we easily placed two kids in child seats in the back, while their prams fit in the boot as well. More on that in the full review.
