Manufacturer recalls for January 2018

The list below covers all the recalls that happened in the first month of 2018.

The Aston Martin DB11 is also being recalled at the moment due to the Daimler steering-column components that are known to deploy airbags when they’re not needed. Every one of the 3873 DB11 coupes built from late-2015 is covered under this recall. Aston Martin will repair the affected vehicles free of cost and in less than 2 hours. This recall follows what Mercedes Benz had to do with a million of their cars in the last year.

Ford is currently issuing a recall to rectify an issue that has been brewing in the online Focus RS forums regarding faulty head gaskets in the 2.3-litre inline-four EcoBoost engines in the 2016 and 2017 model examples. Ford offers to repair the issue after pressure testing the cooling systems of the Focus RS and by inspecting the combustion chambers. If found faulty, the cylinder head gasket will be replaced free of cost. If necessary, they’ll also replace the cylinder head assembly. 

Ford sent out emergency notices urging 2900 of their pickup customers to stop driving their vehicles following a recent death that was caused by the faulty Takata airbags. This notice comes after Ford confirms that the death of a 2006 US-spec Ford Ranger driver was caused by the faulty inflators. Already, there are already 21 deaths against the faulty airbags made by Takata Corp. This had led Ford to initiate a recall of 2700 vehicles that will be considered as high-risk candidates and will be treated with priority. News from Mazda says that the Japanese manufacturer may also start recalling some of their 2006 B-Series trucks as they are built by Ford and are similar to the Ranger.

About 162,000 of the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica minivans are being recalled due to a software glitch that is known to stall the vehicles. The engine control software of the affected vehicles assesses the conditions incorrectly sometimes to stall the vehicles. The engine software for the affected Pacifica vans will be updated to remove the glitch.

An investigation by NHTSA probes into the automatic transmissions fitted to 1.4 million Ford vehicles including F-150 trucks, Mustangs, Expeditions and Lincoln Navigator SUVs from 2011, 2012 and 2013. This follows the recall of 163,000 vehicles that was conducted in 2016 due to the faulty automatic transmissions which were known to slot itself into the first gear. This can send more torque to the driven wheels which can easily lead the driver to lose control and crash. NHTSA is investigating to confirm if these 1.4 million vehicles were supposed to be included in the recall.
