VW Atlas Cross Sport production version spotted in Dubai
This photo was sent to us by reader Mirza Baig back in December 2017. Back then, it was unclear what this mystery crossover could be. It was confusing to pinpoint what it was, because VW is busy launching a barrage of crossovers, from the Teramont to the T-Roc, with the Tiguan and the Touareg in between. But in March, Volkswagen also showed a model called the VW Atlas Cross Sport Concept, which is essentially what the prototype hot-weather testing in Dubai looks like.
The German carmaker already sells the 7-seater VW Teramont in the Unites States as an Atlas. This 5-seater “coupe crossover” shares a platform with the Teramont, with an identical wheelbase, but has been shortened in overall length and is supposed to be part of an upcoming line-up of Atlas-badged models, so the Atlas Cross Sport name is likely to carry over to the actual model.
Shown only as a hybrid concept at the Detroit Auto Show in March, the production version is likely to have a range of turbo engines.
Expect a 2019 debut in the GCC, if it indeed is offered here.
