2023 Cadillac Lyriq electric crossover revealed
The Cadillac Lyriq came out of the covers last year as a concept that captured a lot of attention as the luxury brand’s first electric vehicle. A year in, Cadillac shows off the 2023 Lyriq in its production form which keeps almost all the glitter of the concept.
The Cadillac Lyriq is built on GM’s new modular electric platform and it is quite striking. The production version of the Lyriq shows no shame in flaunting the sharp creases and angles of the concept. The slim headlights and the grill lined with LEDs reserve a place in the front fascia. Concept-specific details like the side mounted cameras and the massive wheels are replaced with conventional mirrors and more realistic 20-inch or 22-inch wheels. The eccentric rear design of the concept has also not changed much. The decision to not depart from the concept’s design should bring in a lot of attention to the Lyriq when it hits the road with that eccentric bodywork.
The interior is similarly space-age too, with a long 33-inch LED screen sitting on top of the dashboard, spanning half its width. Cadillac claims that this screen is capable of recreating over a billion colours. Hooked up to this screen is a 19-speaker audio system, along with active noise cancellation.
The Cadillac Lyriq gets its juice from the company’s Ultium long-range batteries. The battery setup is sized a substantial 100 kWh, and the powertrain churns out a total of 340 hp, with 440 Nm torque to boot. The estimated range is 483 km for the initial rear-wheel-drive variant. A “performance” all-wheel-drive version is also expected to follow later.
The Cadillac Lyriq supports DC fast charging up to a rate of 190 kW, helping the crossover juice up 122 km of range in just 10 minutes. A 19.2-kW home charging module is also on offer with the Lyriq, that can add 84 km of range in an hour.
The Cadillac Lyriq will hit the market in the next year and the orders for a First Release model will open up later this year. The price of the base Cadillac Lyriq will start from US$ 59,990 (equivalent to Dhs 220,342) in the United States. It is unclear of the Lyric will be offered in the UAE or any other GCC country, but it looks very likely.
