Video of the week: Italian Superstars Series racing

We honestly don’t have much of an interest in racing. Race cars rarely look like the cars we drive on the street. However, touring cars are always interesting, but usually consist of common European brands, so even that gets boring. However, the Italian Superstars series seems rather interesting, considering radical entrants such as the Chrysler 300C, the Maserati Quattroporte, the Cadillac CTS-V and the Chevrolet CSV CR8 do battle against the usual BMW M3, Audi RS4 and even BMW M5 teams.

Video of the week: Seat Leon racer crash

Portugese driver Francisco Carvalho went off the track at a recent World Touring Car Championship event. Competing in the Seat Leon Euro Cup Race, he got nudged by another racer, which quickly made Carvalho’s car a shining example of what happens when you lose control at high speeds. However, unlike most “accidents” on public roads, no one was injured in this track incident thanks to a racing rollcage and vigilant marshals.

Video of the week: Insecure BMW driver

I hate street racing, and I hate wannabe street racers. I have never been in any street race on public roads, no matter what car I’ve driven, and I will never condone street racing. This here is exclusive video footage, taken by our roving photographer Faisal Khatib, of the 2010 Nissan Patrol on a man-made offroad course during the launch event in Dubai. While the course is standard fare, we seem to be the only ones who caught the high-tech new Patrol tripping on one of the obstacles.

Video of the week: Renault Sherpa in Dubai

Renault’s truck division held a press day recently, where they showed off the off-road prowess of the new Renault Sherpa 4×4, a civilian version of the military-grade truck, in a desert safari ride-along. It was quite possibly the most back-breaking off-road trip we’ve ever been on, as the professional driver hit dunes, shrubs and ruts at full speed with no damage to the high-riding truck, except for a shredded tyre at one point due to the hard driving. The barebones truck can cost more than Dhs 1 million if custom-outfitted. The turbodiesel Sherpa can pretty much tackle any desert situation,
